The VAPE 12 Volt ignition system is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to take their Vespa to a new level of performance. Manufactured by the respected European manufacturer VAPE, this high-quality ignition system ensures reliable and powerful performance in terms of engine running and light, even at low engine speeds. Perfect for a modern conversion to contactless ignition. The significantly easier engine start is included.

All Vespa alternators are designed at the factory for an AC (alternating current) power supply. As soon as the engine is running, power is generated and passed directly to the consumers (lamps). Our VAPE ignition is also supplied as an AC system. However, it can be converted to a DC (direct current) system by simply replacing the voltage regulator (the stator is 'earth-free' and only becomes DC or AC through the wiring). The entire current from the alternator is fed into a battery via a full-wave regulator. This supplies all consumers (lamps, horn, indicators etc.). The advantage here is that a power supply is available even when the engine is not running.

Our VAPE ignition is supplied with a CDI that has a static ignition timing. In contrast to four-stroke engines, two-stroke engines do not require dynamic adjustment due to the gas-dynamic effects in the combustion chamber. The ignition angle remains almost linear despite increasing engine speed due to the fast-burning mixture. Only absolute racing engines, which only operate at speeds above 6000 rpm, could benefit from an adjustment. For most scooters on the road, however, dynamic ignition advance is rather disadvantageous. A high ignition angle in the lower range leads to a rough and uneven engine running, while a decreasing ignition angle with increasing engine speed often reduces performance. For this reason, we use a CDI with static ignition timing, which is perfectly suited to both standard engines and engines with greatly increased performance. Of course, our VAPE ignition can also be equipped with a dynamically adjustable CDI for special expansion stages.
